The Story of How Warn Out Was Created

August 18, 2025 · 3 min read

Goal: To create unique “one-of-one” clothing that celebrates individuality. You are your own canvas. How: By building an affordable and simple-to-use customizer that unlocks endless variations and effortless editing.

How It All Started

The idea for Warn Out first came to me during my sophomore year of college (2014). At the time, I was taking an art class that pushed me to think deeply about design, color theory, and the meaning behind colors and shapes.

I remember comparing my favorite color (green) to my personality, and suddenly the connection between art, identity, and self-expression became very real to me.

Around the same time, my professor shared a competition called Year of the Arts. To enter, I had to submit an idea, a budget, and choose a mentor. Since I’ve always loved fashion and the way clothing lets us express who we are, I thought: What if I created clothing pieces where no two were the same — just like our personalities?

That was the spark.

From Concept to Creation

I submitted my idea and was chosen as a finalist. With funding for supplies and my professor as my mentor, I set out to combine art, psychology, and fashion.

We designed a personality-based survey that tied answers to colors and shapes. Each response influenced the layout of a design, meaning every person’s results produced a completely different shirt. I met with a local print and design company to bring my designs to life. I was fascinated, and for the first time, I saw how this could be more than a school project.

Even though I didn’t win the competition, I walked away with something much bigger: a vision.

The Struggle to Bring Warn Out to Life

Over the next few years, I kept coming back to the idea. I taught myself Adobe software, experimented with design, and searched for ways to make mass customization possible.

After graduation (2017), while working full time, I finally had the resources to bring the dream closer to reality. I hired a team to help build a custom website capable of handling thousands of design variations. I went through multiple web developers, basically got scammed by one. I ordered samples, tested fits, and even documented the process via vlogs. Something that should’ve taken a few months to a year turned into a 6 year process (not including the conception in school). It was exciting, frustrating, and challenging — but every step reminded me why I started.

More Than Just Clothing

From the beginning, Warn Out was never just about apparel. It was about self-expression and uniqueness. About refusing to blend into the molds society creates. About giving people a way to wear their personalities on the outside.

We live in a world that often pressures us to conform. Warn Out exists to celebrate difference — to remind you that you’re not meant to fit in, you’re meant to stand out. Each piece we make is one-of-one, just like you.

Why the Name “Warn Out”?

After bouncing ideas around, a friend suggested “Warn Out.” It clicked.

Where We Are Today

Fast forward 11 years after the original idea (2025): My girlfriend introduced me to the EDM/rave scene which I instantly fell in love with. Not only was the music energetic and bass heavy, the people are super cool, culture is warm, and outfits are out of this world. I knew what I was trying to do would resonate extremely well with this audience. Warn Out is now creating custom, one-of-a-kind apparel that resonates deeply with people — especially within the rave and festival scene. This community thrives on individuality, bold self-expression, and authenticity, and it’s an honor to see our designs become part of it.

But this is only the beginning.

I have big plans for expanding the brand, experimenting with new products and designs, and building a community of people who share the same belief: Be who you are, unapologetically.
